STARSkate / Podium Pathway

STARSkate

STARSkate gives skaters of all ages the opportunity to develop figure skating skills in dance, skills, freeskate, and artistic skating. Podium Pathway includes assessments and other training opportunities for skaters who show competitive potential and want to continue progressing.

  • Figure skating is taught in a private lesson format.
  • Skaters progress through Skate Canada’s nationally standardized STAR system.
  • Skaters may compete at the invitational, sectional, provincial, and regional levels.

Centralized Coaching Model

Effective August 30, 2026, the Club will move to a centralized coaching model, with all skaters developing under one Skating Director/Head Coach.

Over the past several months, the Board reviewed afternoon sessions and identified opportunities to improve session flow, organization, and overall skater safety.

In addition, Skate AB has advised the Board that the single head coach model has become increasingly common over the past decade, and Skate Canada is actively advocating for team coaching models.

With this new direction, the Club will:

  • better align with Skate Canada Program Delivery Standards and other Skate Canada regulations
  • improve safety protocols and session flow by ensuring skaters are placed on appropriate sessions based on ability and age
  • provide more consistent training for all skaters
  • encourage stronger collaboration between coaches
  • expand team coaching opportunities to help reduce costs for families and enhance the skater experience

What This Means for Families

Spring and Summer skate will run as usual. Effective August 30, 2026:

  • All skaters will be considered “LBFSC skaters” under the direction of the Skating Director. There will no longer be skaters identified by individual coaches.
  • The Skating Director will assign each skater’s morning session according to ability and age.
  • The Skating Director will work with parents to choose weekday afternoon and Sunday sessions.
  • The Skating Director will plan lessons and designate the coach for each skater for every ice session.
  • Administration for STAR 1–5 assessments will be centralized, including assigning a Coach Assessor for each test.
