Return to Skate

In order for clubs and skating schools to receive approval to Return to Skate, they must ensure they have met all the criteria as outlined by the Skate Canada Guidelines, and the Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut Protocols.

Registration Dates are as follow:

  • STARSkate begins on Monday, August 31
         Registration opens on Monday, August 17, 8 PM
  • Pre-STARSkate begins on Tuesday, September 1 
         Registration opens on Monday, August 24
  • CanPowerSkate begins on Wednesday, September 2
         Registration opens on Monday, August 17, 8 PM
  • CanSkate begins on Tuesday, September 22
         Registration opens on Monday, August 24

All participants must be at least five years old and have some skating experience. Ie: be able to skate the length of the ice and be able to fall down and stand up on their own.

All Skate Canada Guidelines and Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut Protocols must be met for all CanSkate sessions during COVID-19:
  • All coaches and program assistants must wear a non-medical mask and gloves at all times. Gloves and masks should be changed between sessions.
  • Participants MUST arrive at the rink with skates on, fully dressed and ready to get on the ice. Program Assistants and Coaches will be unable to aid in putting on / taking off skates. 
  • Physical distancing must be maintained with skates on/off in the facility unless the club/school has formed a sport cohort.
  • Educate skaters to use physical distancing protocols when passing skaters.
  • Instruct skaters NOT to touch the teaching aids or props.  Skaters must not have shared contact with any teaching aid or prop.

Effective August 1, 2020:
Anyone entering the LBCA is required to wear a face mask* as mandated by the City of Calgary. *Please note: individuals participating in physical activity are not required to wear a mask. Example: hockey players are required to wear a mask into the facility but not on the ice.

Effective August 15, 2020:
SPECTATORS are not permitted at this time. Spectator areas are closed until further notice. This includes tables and benches in the lobby of the arena. Parents, coaches, users and participants should not linger in the facility. Please leave promptly after helping your child arrive at their scheduled booking time.

A parent information meeting will be held before the start of the program.
